It'southward Christmas All Over is a 2020 Christmas anthology from American alternative stone ring Goo Goo Dolls, released on October 30, via Warner Records.[2] Information technology has received mixed disquisitional reception.

Recording and release [edit]

"Someone asked me to tape a Christmas song for them for a compilation record... I had and then much fun doing it that I thought, 'Well, why don't we make a whole tape?'"

—John Rzeznik on being inspired to tape the album[i]

The ring initially planned to tour in support of 2019'southward Miracle Pill through mid-2020 merely due to the COVID-xix pandemic, those plans were scrapped and the ring members wrote music in their homes and recorded them at a studio in Boyle Heights, finalizing the work in the ring'south studio GCR Sound in Buffalo, New York.[1] They made a conscious endeavor to non tape harder stone versions of the standards, instead opting for traditional pop sounds.[3] In lieu of touring, the band livestreamed virtual "augmented reality pic musicals" in October and December[3] that would allow audience members to control the camera and watch them perform.[iv]

"Permit It Snowfall" was released for streaming,[3] followed by "This Is Christmas" in mid-October.[5]

In 2021, the ring released a "Deluxe Digital Edition" [6] which included two bonus tracks: "I've Got My Love To Keep Me Warm," kickoff included every bit a bonus download with purchase of the CD [7] or LP,[eight] and "One Final Song About Christmas," a new original song.

Disquisitional reception [edit]

Hal Horowitz of American Songwriter gave this album 2.5 out of five stars, criticizing information technology for being bland, with some muted praise for varied musical genres and experimentation, he sums upwards, "the project could take been much more interesting if it rocked harder and the vocal choices didn't revert back to some obvious, and worn out standards that find the Goo Goo Dolls doing something they never would accept considered in their earliest days; playing information technology condom".[9] Andy Von Pip of Under the Radar gave this album a five.v out of 10, noting that "the two original self-penned songs that really practice hit the marking and hint at what might take been" but the work is primarily padded with "pedestrian" covers and it is ultimately a "rushed tick box do trying to cover all festive bases but rarely hit a abode run".[10]
